Trout Snatcher Nymph

A perfect fly to mimic a mayfly nymph. Find it in our shop here.
A skinny profile and semi-translucent “micro tubing” body make the Trout Snatcher a great attractor pattern for trout streams just about anywhere. A split tail inspired by the legendary fish-catching powers of the Copper John and bold micro tubing legs add plenty of buginess and triggers. Drop a smaller nymph 16-24“ off the bend for a deadly combo. One of our top producers for wild trout in the Driftless Area of Minnesota and a favorite fly for shallow riffles and runs.

Hook: #14-24
Bead: Brass or tungsten
Thread: 8/0 Uni
Tail: Two split goose biots
Abdomen: Micro Tubing
Wingcase: Mottled brown turkey or hen quill slip
Thorax: Hare’s ear dubbing
Legs: Micro Tubing

As a general rule, we try and match all the colors, ie. if its using olive micro tubing, use olive thread, dubbing, etc. Also, these guys tie up really pretty with a black or mottled bead, for a more muted presentation.

Check it out here in our shop!
